Organizations, like individuals, change. They are given birth, they grow and are developed, they go through  various stages of development, and they usually grow old and sometimes die.  Sometimes they are reborn anew, sometimes they are split into many new smaller groups,  sometimes they go bankrupt, at other times they may be made redundant. Sometimes  organizations change for the better, sometimes for the worse.

Sometimes when an organization has been successful, has grown and grown, developed rules and procedures, ways of doing things, the organization becomes bureaucratic and becomes over devoted to the status quo. Then sometimes as the markets change, as the economic environments change, as government regulations evolve… sometimes the organization has to change or die.

That’s when we call for an effective Organizational Change Model.

During the covid pandemic, I had the opportunity to present the Meta-States Model to the NLP Leadership Summit, to NLP Trainers in Australia, and to the Neuro-Semantic “Wisdoms.”

What I learned from that experience is that there is very, very little understanding in the field of NLP about meta-states and even less about the Meta-States Model. NLP has seemed to become so focused only on representations and the editing of representations (sub-modalities), that most NLP Trainers do not understand the role of meta. And while Neuro-Semantic Trainers training APG, the flagship of Neuro-Semantics, and so teach and train the Meta-States Model, most only have a superficial understanding of it. Almost no one has a deep appreciation for the incredible
extensiveness of the Meta-States Model.

experience.

Here’s what I believe:
The quality of your life is the quality of your thinking.
To be “fully alive/fully human” requires the ability to truly and
authentically think and think for yourself.
Thinking lies at the core of everything that we do that’s human.
As you think, so you are and so you are becoming. Your thinking
defines you and shapes your inner self and “personality.”
The quality of your beliefs, decisions, emotions, memories,
knowledge, imaginations, etc. depends on the quality of your
thinking.

To manage your thinking requires that you think about your
thinking, to use your meta-cognition to meta-think.
Meta-thinking enables a special kind of learning— meta-learning by
which you can then manage the quality of your thinking.

An Untaught Essential
While thinking is the most fundamental thing you do, the great majority of
people have never been taught how to truly think. That’s because at school
we are taught what to think; we are not taught how to think. Thinking was,
and continues to be, assumed and taken for granted. It should not.
Consequently, the great majority of people are poor thinkers. Their thinking
is superficial and is easily dominated and distorted by emotions. As the
quality of their thinking is low, this causes most of their problems in life.
Shockingly, we mostly think our way into difficulties as we fail to discern
quality information, make bad decisions, engage in stupid actions, create
disastrous relationships, etc. All of that sabotages one’s best efforts. The…..

Experts are special. They are able to do what most people cannot do
and they perform with unique skill and elegance. Often the expert is
so amazingly good that we stand in awe as we marvel and wonder.
“How can he do that!?” “She is so incredibly exceptional; no one can even
come close to her excellence.” For millennia, expertise was viewed as
miraculous—the gift of the gods, an innate talent given to a special person.
Yet that way of thinking created a problem. As long as people thought that
way, they didn’t even ask the learning or modeling questions, “How can I
learn to do that?!” They just assumed, “That’s the way it is.” “Some people
have the gift, others do not.”

Today we have learned better. We have learned better methods for
studying, learning, remembering, practicing, transferring, adapting, and
developing specific skills. We learned that we could identify best practices
and invent increasingly better processes for replicating them more
effectively and efficiently. In a word, we learned how to model expertise.
In fact, this has become the specific focus of NLP. Yet it didn’t begin that
way. NLP began as a Communication Model with a focus on
communicating professionally, accurately, and precisely. Eventually we
discovered that the components of communication could be used to specify
the structure of an experience.

There is a psychology within and behind Neuro-Linguistic Programming and Accessing
Personal Genius. To not know that psychology is to not really know what you are doing and
what is occurring when you use the models and patterns. Conversely, to know that
psychology is to understand more fully what’s occurring and what you are doing and what
those receiving are experiencing. Now you know the background knowledge for becoming
masterful with the materials.

Knowing the psychology will enable you to understand where the models and patterns came
from, the persons who first developed the psychological and philosophical concepts, and the
reasons for why they arose. Knowing the psychology gives you, as a trainer, coach,
consultant, or therapist, the required background knowledge for being more effective in your
work. Consequently, you will also be more informed about when to use a given pattern and
when not to, when to continue with a person or group, and when to refer to someone else.
